The Washington Climbers Coalition (WCC) is a non-profit with a mission to make Washington a better place to climb through advocacy, stewardship, and education.
Here’s a link to the WCC website.
MY ROLE: Communication Coordinator for the WCC (some product design work, mostly communication & marketing type of work)
Monitoring and responding to emails we receive
Connecting with the Access Fund and other Climbing organizations across the country
Managing their social media and connecting local WA climbers to the WCC
Thinking through strategies for donations to the WCC and sometimes managing those too
Helping to keep the board organized
PARTNERS: The WCC Board Members
DATE: Started July 2024 through now
CHALLENGE: I first started working for the WCC in July 2024 and the first event I help with and went to was the WCC 20th Anniversary party in October 2024. I quickly realized that most people that were there and caring about the WCC were generally 50+ and mostly sport and trad climbers. Washington has a huge climbing population and a lot of those are people who boulder. Most people now first experience climbing outdoors by first learning about climbing and doing it in a gym. Most gyms are boulder focused, so this seemed like an opportunity of a group of people to connect with. I’ve done this mostly through social media by starting a weekly climbing video series. We now have people tag us constantly who want their videos re-shared. This population has mostly been local Washington climbers who boulder and are between the ages of 25 & 35.
METRICS & LEARNINGS:
I helped the Washington Climbers Coalition raise $30k between Dec 15, 2025, and Jan 15, 2026, by sharing an end-of-year email and social media post detailing what the WCC did in 2025.
I increased engagement on social media by 65% in 2025.
We generally now receive 20-35k views of our reels and posts per month, and we get between 45-70 new followers per month. We got 700+ new followers in 2025. The age range of our new followers has been between 25-44, which is great because when I first started working for the WCC, most people at the 20th Anniversary party were 50 and up and were mostly sport and trad climbers.
I started a weekly series each week in 2025 where I share a video per week of user-donated content featuring local Washington climbers on local Washington climbs, partnering (by tagging) Kaya. Kaya is a climbing app created by Washington climbers that helps users find climbs via GPS and watch beta videos.
I also helped the WCC by adding a new weather climbing-specific app to website called ClimbitScore. This helps local climbers learn about the weather conidtions in specific climbing areas before making the effort to get out and climb.
